It is not our fault that we are overweight. Two thirds of American adults in 2010 were either overweight with a body-mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher, or obese with a BMI of 30-plus. Since the trend showed a steady increase in the obesity rates, this year will be even worse. And that is not even by the standards by which our parents and grandparents were measured. In 1940, almost all of us would have been considered overweight.
Unfortunately when people get desperate they resort to extreme behavior like eating a few bites of salad instead of a real meal, or exercising compulsively for hours in the hopes of attaining the desired weight. The idea is to find a system that is radical (strict) enough to help you lose weight relatively fast, but sane enough to maintain or improve your health and allow you to function at normal capacity. Also, it has to be flexible enough to adapt to your needs and to your eating preferences. If you are lactose intolerant, a diet that includes a lot of dairy will not work for you.
